Eastern Cape-born rapper StaticFlo is set to release her debut album, Flight31, this Friday. The album title symbolizes the journey and freedom associated with flight, reflecting StaticFlo’s personal and artistic evolution.
As she explains, “When you think of flight, you think of flying by plane, reaching your destination. For me, it’s all about freedom, zero limits, reaching a destination, a journey. So, we take flight to reach a destination. It’s a 13-track album which tells a story.” The ‘31’ represents her age at the time of completion and her decade-long dedication to music, while the number 13 has significance as well, being the reverse of 31.
StaticFlo’s last project was the 2020 EP Iphupha, which included the single ‘I See The Light’ featuring PDotO and Bencco. For Flight31, she continues her collaboration with Bencco and has enlisted a few other producers while keeping the focus on her own artistry.
“I’ve featured amazing artists too,” StaticFlo notes. “I went the route of if it’s not organic, we going to leave it, hence there’s less features and more StaticFlo.”
