CANEX Creations Incorporated, an initiative powered by Afrexim Bank’s Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) programme, is thrilled to announce the release of the highly anticipated EP One Drum—a collaborative masterpiece that bridges cultures and genres while celebrating the rich musical heritage of Africa and its diaspora.
The first single from the One Drum project, Afro-Wave, is set to be released this Friday, August 16th, 2024. This international collaboration features South Africa’s Scorpion Kings (Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa) alongside legendary house DJ Oskido. The track also showcases leading Amapiano vocalists TmanXpress and Phila Dloz. Adding a global touch, renowned Brazilian Bloc-Afro band Olodum infuses the Bahia sound, blending Afrohouse with Amapiano beats, accompanied by isiZulu lyrics.
One Drum is a unique project that unites an extraordinary lineup of artists from across the African diaspora, the Caribbean, Brazil, the USA, and Europe. It celebrates the cultural ties that connect Africa and its diaspora, forged through the shared history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. The EP also highlights the enduring rhythms and musical traditions that have traversed continents—from the mystical drums of Brazil to the reggae and soul of the Caribbean, and the global beats of Afrobeats and Amapiano.
This EP delves into themes of cultural pride, resilience, and the beauty of collaboration, not only showcasing musical talent but also celebrating the power of cultural exchange. It creates a universal language that connects us all.
